New Volkswagen Polo 2017 Design

There has been a change in dimensions. The new Polo is now longer by 81mm, wider by 69mm and the wheelbase has seen an increase by 94mm. This all is amazing. As the Polo hasn’t grown a lot in size but on the inside it has seen a major upgrade. The new Polo 2017 is based on the MQB platform, which makes it more agile than ever. The framework has grown in size and the styling is more on an evolution. There are the same VW design elements that can be seen on the new Polo. The new Polo has a lot of its existing elements, but it does look different. The new Polo looks wider than ever.

New Volkswagen Polo 2017 sideThe headlamps are now sleek and longer. There are dual barrel projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs in them. The new front bumper looks stylish and and is certainly a new design element. What is more? The side profile looks longer and seems lower. The Polo seems to have grown from the silhouette and it looks more sporty. The design looks premium and it seems to be an all new product, entering a new segment when we talk about the dimensions. The new Polo has 16-inch alloy wheels on offer.

The roof line was made longer and thereby more elegant; it transitions into a roof spoiler at the rear. A fine line on the side body runs parallel to the roof line; it visually lowers the Polo’s centre of gravity. Key detailing of the Polo includes its long line of side windows – the Polo is the only Volkswagen to have a window line that terminates in a rise at both front and rear.

The twin dials and the driver information system make up the instrument cluster. The centre console is all new, it gets a 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rectangular AC vents, climate control and then the gear lever. The new features includes keyless entry, push start and stop, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD and ESP. The other features also include wireless charging for smartphones (optional inductive aerial connection) and one of the largest panoramic roofs in its class (opening is 10 mm wider and 20 mm longer than before). Another available option: the Sport Select running gear with active dampers. The new Polo can be personalised to create an almost unique car by choosing from different trim lines, colours, interiors, wheels and optional features.

New Volkswagen Polo 2017 wireless chargingFor India, we expect the 1.0-litre TSI to come in and replace the current 1.2-litre petrol. This will make it an exciting hatchback, but they will detune the engine and make it churn about 80 horses. A 100-110bhp version will also be made on this same engine, which will be for the GT TSI range. As always, it is a bit too early to say more on the exact specifications for India.

 New Volkswagen Polo 2017 Competition

The New Volkswagen Polo 2017 will be competing with the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Ford Figo. As the new Polo is bigger it will be competing with more premium hatches. The bigger car will mean that it will go head on with the other premium hatchbacks. The current Polo is shorter in length, the new Polo 2017 will complete this task and it will be made available very soon.

We reckon the new VW Polo will make a debut in India sometime by early 2019, or if we are lucky then late 2018. The company is working on the MQB platform, and the Polo shall be mad eon the MQB A0 for India. This will be a hybrid platform and the company will be working towards making the hatchback more affordable than what it is at the moment, and also better value for money.
