2016 Maruti Alto 800 facelift – all the details

2016 Maruti Alto 800 facelift is a minor upgrade for the country’s highest selling car. The Alto recently got a serious contender in the form of Renault Kwid and Datsun RediGo. This is the first time, Maruti has been challenged in this segment. The Eon has got its market share and since then it has been doing its similar numbers.

This hatchback’s facelift has been priced between INR 2.75 lakhs to INR 4.15 lakhs (on-road). Maruti will work its way with the pricing.

The Maruti Alto 800 facelift will be competing with the Hyundai Eon, Datsun RediGo and the Renault Kwid. All these compete with the Alto 800 facelift. The more powerful Tata Nano Pelican will also be competing in this segment.

The Maruti Alto 800 facelift will come in four variants: Standard, Standard (O), LX, LX(O), LXi, LXi(O), VXi and VXi(O).

2016 Maruti Alto 800 Facelift Engine

Maruti Alto 800 will get a 796cc petrol engine that will produce 47bhp of power and this will come with a five-speed manual transmission. The Alto 800 isn’t the most powerful on paper but in real world it is a lot more easier to drive. The Alto 800 will also be offered with a CNG option as well. The sales of AMT on the Alto K10 are also less and so, Maruti won’t be introducing the Alto 800 with an AMT. The company is looking at continuing with its lead in this segment with a very high margin.

The 2016 Alto 800 facelift is offered with Superior White, Granite Grey, Blazing Red, Silky Silver, Cerulean Blue and Mojito Green.

We had expected Maruti to make the Alto 800 look a lot more stylish on the inside and load it with more features. Instead, it gets upholstery upgrade only. The Alto 800 facelift now even gets an in-dash music system on the higher end variant and then front power windows too.

The new three-spoke steering wheel looks stylish and appealing.

There are some added storage spaces in the car, like the one above the glove box. The quality too has been improved.

The seat head rests are fixed and Maruti has given a cut on the back of the front seats, to add that extra knee room for the rear passengers. There are front power windows and the new three-spoke steering wheel is carried forward. the instrument cluster is simple and the side AC vents are circular. The in-dash music system has USB and aux-input. The logos form the inside have been replaced. The current fit and finish of the dashboard is more appealing and it looks stylish than before. The Alto 800 doesn’t have a instrument panel that will appeal to you out right, but yes it is something that you can live with.

The facelift has got a new face. The Suzuki badge on the front grille will be moved on to the bumper. The new front grille will be a lot more slimmer and almost non-existent. The front bumper design will also be revised and a new rear bumper too.

These will be the majorly made changes on the facelift’s exterior design. The side profile will remain the same without any kind of changes. Rear styling hasn’t been changed either. Some of the major aspects of the Alto 800 has been its simple design and Maruti wants to keep it as an understated car in design. This is what a good majority likes.
