In India, two-wheeler sales outnumber four-wheelers. Two wheelers are used to commute and even to transport things at times. Thanks to phenomenal growth of e-commerce, a lot of deliveries are made through a motorcycle or a bike.

Also, with the growing demand for food delivery, all the food deliveries are made on a two-wheeler itself.

So, it is important to consider safety for car and bike riders.

Recently, India was ranked one of the highest in terms of road casualties. There has been a lot of talk about getting airbags in cars, however bikes are still not that important in safety. Looking at the number of bikers, we reckon it is important to give equal important to buyers. There are several aspects that one needs to consider, for his or her safety while riding. Apart from following traffic signal rules, here  are some of them:

  1. Wear a helmet. Don’t look at saving and buying a cheap helmet. Get a helmet that will save your head in case of an impact. Agreed that a good helmet should cost you about INR 4,000-5,000, but what is the use of the money if you can’t save  yourself? Buy a less expensive bike/scooter but invest heavily in riding gear.

2. Very important for both! Ensure that you have Car Insurance and Two Wheeler Insurance. Ensure it hasn’t expired. This will make things extremely easy.

3. If you have an option to buy an ABS or non-ABS car/bike. Pick the ABS option. This is very vital. We do understand that you are a good rider and you know how to brake hard.

However, bad times do not ring a warning bell. So, it is wise to get yourself a better option with ABS.

4. Car owners, if you see a bike close to you ensure that you slow down and back off a bit for their safety. Avoid being aggressive, if a biker brakes hard, he/she has a higher probability to fall and get injured.

5. Another highly important point for a rider and car driver is, to maintain your calm. Do not overspeed and risk your life. Stay calm, stay focused. Overtake only when it is safe. Do not honk too much and try to make way for yourself. Calm down and ride in comfort. Avoid pushing yourself to the limit and back off if needed.
