The Indian car market was amongst the late ones to adopt automatic cars. But the transition towards the acceptance of automatics has been quite fast. The introduction of Automated Manual Transmissions or AMT has further driven buyers to opt for them. Speaking of automatics, broadly there are 4 types of transmissions generally found.

AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) – They are manual gearboxes with sensors that automatically change gears. There is no clutch.

CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) – It is also known as a single speed transmission. CVTs have their own advantage as there is no lag generally experienced during gearshifts, hence the drive is smooth.

Automatic Transmission – The regular automatic transmission shifts gears automatically, as per the desired speed. These are more complicated systems and can bear more load than a CVT. Most automatic cars utilize this type of transmission.

Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) – This is an advanced automatic. The DCT uses two sets of automatic clutches, thus reducing the lag and providing better fuel economy. They are expensive, hence are currently not very common in affordable cars.

Let us see which are the automatic cars that cost below Rs.10 lakhs (on-road). Read on further.
