A Prime Minister who has been promoting Make-in-India campaign and improving friendly ties of the country with the world will have multiple threats from innumerable. His protection is vital for the country. Back in the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had a bullet proof Mahindra Scorpio. He had carried forward the Scorpio with him and it was his mode of transport for the oath of Prime Minister.

Anand Mahindra had offered to make a new Scorpio. One that will be a lot more stronger and safer. It will have even better safety and security of our Prime Minister. As He has been Make In India, he never said a no for it. But the SPG (Security Personnel Group) didn’t agree for a new car and they had to continue with BMW 7 Series high Security Edition.

Why Narendra Modi’s Car is a BMW?

Following are the reasons:

  • This will be additional cost. At the moment, the 7 Series is there, which was procured during Dr Mahmohan Singh’s tenure. So, that will shall be an additional cost.
  • Mahindra Scorpio is taller than other vehicles in the PM’s convoy. This makes it easier to spot it from far. The 7 Series on the other hand sits lower than the X5, which is a part of the convoy.
  • BMW 7 Series has better acceleration than the Scorpio. Making it easier to fled an attack scene.
  • The 7 Series is VR7 certificated, making it a much more bullet-proof and safer option.

Due to these reasons, the 7 Series was picked up. This comes with a 6.0-litre V12 engine churning about 544bhp of power and 750Nm of maximum torque. This engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 7 Series has more than sufficient grunt and it does 0-100km/hr in about 6.2 seconds. It can achieve a top speed of about 210km/hr. This is the previous-generation of the 7 Series. The High Security Edition takes about a year or two more after the new generation has been launched. There is still some time for the 7 Series High Security to come in.

This is VR7 certificated and it has been tested by many kinds of bullets also. The glass is 6cm thick, making it difficult for any kind of bullet to penetrate through it. Some elements on the car are VR9 certified too. There is polycarbonate coating on the glass, which prevents glass from entering into the car. Keeping our PM Modi-ji safe in the car.

There is an in-built intercom for the driver to connect with anyone outside the car without stepping out or opening the window. This is vital for PM Modi’s security. Then there is an oxygen tank too, this comes into use when there is an attack. The driver has to switch on the attack mode and the oxygen is supplied inside the car. This is handy when there is a gas attack and even to avoid smoke from entering into the cabin.

Another important element of the car is the driver. He undergoes a major training and is then deployed into service. This happens at the company’s headquarters in Munich. The driver is trained to enhance this driving ability and learn multiple things like 180-turn, J-turn etc. This smart move from the driver is vital for the safety and security of the PM.

A couple of years ago the new Mercedes-Benz S-Guard was launched. This is now VR10 certificated, which makes it bomb-proof. This is great product for those how need security. You think our PM should get one of these Germans again or the next car should be made by an Indian car maker? Comments are welcome.

  • He should probably switch to the Range Rover LWB. That too has a bullet proof variant and can be ordered in diesel too. Also there already are older Range Rovers in his fleet for his rural visits. Plus JLR is a part of Tata now. So the profits JLR makes will come back to India at some point in time when they are repatriated.

  • the safer the better, the global leader, our pm.
