The Tata Nexon follows Tata Motors’ new Impact design language. It looks stylish and this new compact SUV looks a lot different from the competition.The side profile of the Nexon has a sloping roof and there is a sharp crease that rises with the belt line. There is a thick C-pillar and the large 16-inch tyres make it look sporty. The rear windshield is small and there are small tail lamps. In terms of styling it looks appealing and the company is targeting young buyers who are now shifting towards buying SUVs

The Ecosport on the other hand looks sleek. This compact SUV has a slim front grille with the lower grille having hexagonal design. The side profile looks more closer to a crossover. The black cladding on the wheel arches and the spare wheel that is mounted on the tail gate makes it look rugged and tough. The rear of the Ecosport is appealing with the small tail lamps and the rear wheel on the tail gate.

The Ecosport has standard SUV looks, whereas the Nexon is quite radical looking and futuristic.

The Tata Nexon’s interiors are all new and have been designed from scratch. The Tata Nexon has a three-spoke steering wheel with controls for audio and voice commands. A new instrument cluster is used on the Nexon and it has twin dials with a driver information system sandwiched in-between. The Nexon will come with features like keyless entry, push start and stop button, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with reverse parking camera, maps, aux, bluetooth and USB connectivity. This music system makes through eight Harman speakers.

Ford’s Ecosport’s interiors are more like a cockpit. It comes with too many buttons, knobs and controls which can get a bit confusing. The plastic quality of the materials used is good, however the feel of the plastic is a bit coarse. The black interiors with a silver centre console might not look very appealing to all. But the Ecosport is highly functional. The features that are offered only on Ecosport in this segment are six airbags, leather seats, auto dimming inside mirror, daytime running LEDs and rear seat recline.

Tata Nexon will be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel one will be a 1.5-litre one that shall churn out 108bhp of power and 260Nm of maximum torque. These are newly developed engines by Tata Motors and the diesel will come with a six-speed manual transmission. The Nexon will come with three driving modes. An AMT will also be on offer. The Nexon will have the most powerful diesel engine on offer.

Ford Ecosport comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns 98bhp of power and 215Nm of maximum torque is currently the most powerful diesel engine in this segment. The drivability and even the outright performance of the Ecosport is the best in this segment. There are also two petrol engines available. One is a 1.5-litre petrol that produces 109bhp of power and comes mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed DCT, while the second is a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, producing 123bhp of whopping power.

The Nexon will have a more powerful diesel engine than the Ford Ecosport.

Tata Nexon vs Ford Ecosport Mileage

Tata Nexon diesel is expected to return 14km/l in the city, while on the highway it should be about 18km/l. The petrol should be about 12km/l in the city, while on the highway it should be about 17km/l. The AMT should return about 18km/l on the highway, while in the city, it should be about 14km/l.

The Ford Ecosport in the real world it returns about 15.5km/l in the city, while on the highway it is about 19km/l. The 1.5-petrol returns 10 km/l in city and 14 km/l on the highway, while the 1.0 litre returns 13 km/l in the city and 17 km/l on the highway.
