The XUV500 comes with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that produces 138bhp of power and 320Nm of maximum torque. The engine is refined and silent too. It offers good performance and is pretty powerful, with a good spread of torque. This engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There is also an option of a six-speed automatic gearbox and is better than the manual if you consider driving yourself. The shifts in the automatic are quick as this is a new and more advanced gearbox.

The XUV500 comes with a start-stop function (micro-hybrid) which is not available on the Innova Crysta.The XUV500 is also available with a 1.99-litre engine in the NCR market, due to the ban on cars in excess of 2.0-litre capacity. The XUV500 offers pliant ride and it doesn’t feel stiff or too soft at any point. This makes it good to drive even on bad roads. The ground clearance is sufficient enough to drive on roads with broken tarmac. The high-speed stability too is good enough on the XUV500. The steering weighs up well at high speeds however it does feel slack around the corners. The XUV500 has good handling ability and the chassis is capable of taking more power and torque as well.

The Toyota Innova Crysta uses a ladder on frame construction but ride quality is very composed and is comfortable too. The new chassis is more rigid and even heavier than the earlier Innova. Body roll is very well controlled and it a big step up from the earlier model. The ride can feel a bit harsh at times, though, on bad surfaces but overall it is comfortable to cruise in. Rear seats on the Innova are more comfortable. The steering though is heavy at parking speeds.
