Jeep Compass vs Mahindra XUV500 – Design

In terms of looks, it is certainly the jeep Compass that comes out on top. It looks muscular, and also shares a lot of elements with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is a handsome looking SUV and is more stylish and sophisticated too. Its body claddings, shot overhangs, animal eye headlapms, split taillamps, the seven slat Jeep grille and the floating roof design, all add up to its looks and the mean stance.

The XUV500 is a bigger SUV and has good road presence too. Though it looks modern, the design seems a bit overdone. The XUV500 has been around for a long time now. The basic design remains the same, hence it does not evoke the the feelings what one would get when seeing the Compass. Though it gets LED DRLs, large wheels etc, it doesn’t feel as contemporary as the Compass.

Jeep Compass vs Mahindra XUV500 – Interior Comparison

Jeep Compass Interior

The interiors are one of the highlights of the Jeep Compass. They are very well put together and feels very premium. There is a 7-inch touchscreen system with Bluetooth. The steering wheel is a chunky three spoke unit which feels nice to hold. The interiors are not flashy, but they look good and the materials used are top notch.

The XUV500 interiors in comparison look a bit confused. They seem to be quite loud and in the face. Though XUV500 now offers a darker shade which is better then he earlier models, it does not match up to the levels of the Compass in terms of quality. Where the XUV500 scores is on space. It also has a six and seven seating option, which adds to greater flexibility.

Jeep Compass vs Mahindra XUV500 – Which should you buy?

The two SUVs compared here are different in many aspects, however the expected price overlap has made us compare the two, based on the assumption that they will share prospective buyers. In terms of price the XUV500 is bound to have an advantage. It will start at allows price point (diesel) as compare to the Jeep Compass.

Engine wise also the XUV500 has a capacity advantage, but the Compass defeats it in power delivery and refinement. However, as of now the Jeep Compass comes with only a manual gearbox in the diesel variant. A nine-speed dual clutch transmission is expected to join the line-up but that will be only next year.

The XUV500 is certainly more cheaper than the Compass and that is where it becomes a more value for money package when compared to it. But then there are subtle differences that makes the Compass a good product too. In all reality, Compass competes directly with the Hyundai Tucson, if we just do a price comparison, then the Compass has an upper hand on the Tucson. Also, the XUV500 is a much better value for money package when compared to the Compass. Similar features, more power and two extra seats also.

When choosing between the two, one need to be clear about the purpose. If it is higher seating capacity and space that is a priority, then the Mahindra XUV500 would suit. Otherwise, if performance, superior off-roading ability, better build and premium brand are priorities, then the Jeep Compass would surely be a better choice.
