2020 Maruti Suzuki Ignis BS6 vs Tata Tiago BS6

Hatchback segment in India has been booming for quite some time now. First-time car buyers prefer this segment with its lower-priced car. However current market competition can confuse you on which car to buy because of more than needed options. Price and Variants

The ex-showroom price of the Tata Tiago is clearly lower than the Maruti Suzuki Ignis while also providing better features as compared to its rival on the base variant. Moreover, the top variant of Tata Tiago costs much less than the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.  A dual-tone roof option is also available on the Tata Tiago 2020 BS6. 

Safety

This parameter of budget cars is never given enough importance to reduce production costs. Tata, however, has gone against the tide and made Tiago one of the safest car made in the country. In the global NCAP test for safety, the category average is 2 star while the Tata Tiago scored a 4-star.

coIf safety is your major concern, close your eyes and buy the Tiago. You won’t find a better option than this. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control and Rear park assist are all provided starting from the base variant. The Ignis gets the all the above-mentioned features too in the BS6 version but has only scored a 3-star rating in the Global NCAP safety test, which is obviously better than category average 2 star.

Exteriors

Talking about the Tata Tiago 2020 BS6, the front grille has been redesigned and chrome accents have been added. The headlamps look sharper and the lines on the bonnet have been inspired by ‘Impact 2.0’. You also get dual-tone front and rear bumper which makes this car sporty and stand out. 15-inch wheels come with a diamond cut alloy design and 170mm of ground clearance.

The Maruti Suzuki Ingis 2020 BS6, on the other hand, does not have any major changes on the rear of the car. You do get a massive spoiler and roof rails which make this new car resemble an SUV, something which Tiago cannot relate to. The front grille now comes with chrome accents and projector headlamps. Dual-tone bumpers also make an appearance in this car.180mm of wheelbase beats the Tiago and makes Ignis taller. 15-inch wheels are present here too and look the same as previous generation Ignis.

Dimensions

While the dimensions of Tata Tiago are surely lower than Ignis, comfort in both the car is quite the same. The extra boot space may seem a lot but believe us 4 big bags can easily be stored on the Tiago’s boot too. The Tiago provides a slightly better mileage too and will keep the car running on low cost. 

Engine and Performance

Both cars come with only a single petrol engine option. The 1.2 litre BS6 petrol engine is common to both. Find the performance below

Performance of both the cars is quite similar due to the same however the Indian product Tiago produces more power compared to its rival. Both the cars are perfect for urban city use and comfortable at high speeds too. The low ride-height of Tiago helps control body roll better than the Ignis. The new Tata Tiago feels light and nimble to drive while the new Ignis is still left to be road-tested.

Interiors

Maruti Suzuki Ignis 2020 BS6 retains the same interior as the previous generation model. Rear seat comfort is quite decent and comfortable. The extra width and height has been effectively used by the company. The front seats are comfortable too. Glove box size is small but ok.

Coming back to the Tata Tiago 2020 BS6, interior look premium and well built. Dual-tone accents are present here too. You also see the familiar tri-arrow accents. Flat bottom steering wheel is available in both the cars. A fully digital instrument cluster is present in the Tiago. 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system is also similar in both the cars with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. The rear and front-seat comfort is decent enough but the Ignis provides a slightly better headroom compared to the Tiago. 4 speakers and 4 tweeters of HARMAN is available with the Tiago and sound spectacular. Massive glove-box is present in the front. Rear AC vents are unavailable in both the cars.

Conclusion

Both the cars are equally matched and are quite similar. Road test of Ignis is left but the Tata Tiago feels punchy and stable. The Tiago looks more of a city and family car while the Ignis has SUV, crossover feel to it. Dimensions are also quite similar.
