There are many cars available below ten lakhs that offer the best of features nowadays. You get premium hatchbacks as well as compact sedans in this range. Today we pin both of these against each other and gives you the strong points of each.

The Baleno is one of the best selling premium hatchbacks in the country. The Honda Amaze is a compact sedan, from Honda. Putting them against each other does not make sense according to price but their mid variants compete with each other and gets really confusing for customers.

Engine

The Maruti Baleno gets 1.2-litre petrol producing 82 bhp and 115 nm of torque. It also gets an optional CVT in the higher variants. The Honda Amaze gets 1.2-litre petrol as well that produces 89 bhp and 110 nm of torque. While the Honda Amaze also gets an option of a BS6 diesel engine, the Maruti Baleno does not get the same option. The Honda Amaze gets a 1.5-litre diesel producing 99 bhp and 200 nm of torque. Both the engines on the Honda Amaze get the optional CVT gearbox. The engine of the Baleno feels somewhat peppier to the one in the Amaze, however, you do not get any diesel option in the car.

Comfort

The overall comfort in both cars is similar when you are sitting in the front seats. But it is at the rear seats where you realise the benefits of a sedan. The seating position and the extra knee room in the Amaze make it more comfortable to sit in the back than the Baleno. It gets a rear armrest as well.

Features and interiors

The overall fit and finish of the Honda Amaze are a bit better to the Baleno. However, the Baleno gets a better infotainment system. The Driver information system is also much better to look at in the Baleno and provides more information for the person who is driving. Both cars get features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, climate control, rear parking cameras and cruise control. The Baleno gets 16-inch wheels while the Amaze gets only 15-inch wheels. Obviously, the boot space on the Honda Amaze will be far better to the Baleno.

The Honda Amaze gets a boot space of  420 litres while the Maruti Baleno gets a boot space of 339 litres. The Baleno gets a ground clearance of 165 mm while the Baleno gets 170 mm of ground clearance.

Fuel efficiency and pricing

The Maruti Baleno gets a fuel efficiency of 21 km/l while the Amaze gets a fuel efficiency of 18.6 km/l. But, the Amaze gets 24.7 km/l in its diesel variant. The entry-level Baleno is priced at Rs 5.7 lakh (ex-showroom) and the entry-level is Amaze is priced at Rs 6.18 lakh(ex-showroom). In our opinion, the Amaze is worth the extra money that it demands due to the better ride quality better comfort and extra boot space.
