TVS Sport Review
In the last few years TVS has come up as a formidable foe for other bike manufacturers. They have tried to hit almost every segment and most of the times are successful. From the simplest XL 100 to the now Apache 200, TVS always looks to dominate. So in the run TVS decided to enter the simple yet stylish super low cost commuter segment where a decent styling and loads of mileage matters. TVS Sport has been launched to compete in this segment and now in 2017 we have a new updated edition to the offering. Let us have a look at what is new.
TVS Sport Price
Onroad price | |
New Delhi | INR 41,043 |
Bangalore | INR 42,823 |
Pune | INR 43,266 |
Chennai | INR 44,520 |
Hyderabad | INR 44,851 |
Mumbai | INR 43,266 |
Ahmedabad | INR 43,042 |
Kolkata | INR 44,922 |
Chandigarh | INR 41,214 |
Keeping the price below the INR 50,000 mark is a very tough task and TVS has managed. A simple elegant looking commuter for the masses is what the Sport is and very opposite to its name actually.

TVS Sport Top Speed
At 85 km/h, the TVS Sport is in the league of all the other commuters. This is a decent speed to go around all day. Any thing can also be risky. Like i said daily chores and comute. Not for track days.
TVS Sport Dimensions
Dimensions | TVS Sport |
Length | 1950 mm |
Width | 705 mm |
Height | 1080 mm |
WheelBase | 1250 mm |
Ground Clearance | 170 mm |
Kerb Weight | 108 kgs |
Seat Height | 790 mm |
The TVS Sport is a mix. The seat height is quite high for a commuter at 790 mm and so is the ground clearance. On the bright side tall people will be comfortable and way less change of the bike bottoming out on bad roads or our unusually high speed breakers. The handle bars are narrow for a commuter too at just 705 mm. Well one place where less is good is the weight, because at 108 kgs this light bike is very easy to maneuver around effortlessly.

TVS Sport Design
The headlamp of the TVS Sport is now clear and the black visor on top with the u-shape make this look like someone’s head and receding hair line. The bike gets alloys but still miss disc brakes. Along with the headlamp even the indicators at the front are clear. The engine has a black coating which is a nice touch and the shiny chrome like cover on the exhaust adds to the premium feel.
The tank flows well into the seat and the seat is long and think for very good cushioning.
The body panel below the sea flows sharply to the back to house the tail lamp which is neither too big not too small. The indicators at the rear are clear too. The grabrail is short but is tall enough to suit its purpose.”get Grabbed”. From the side the ground clearance looks good. Somewhat like an off roading bike but then again our rural India mostly are offroads. One thing I am surprised to find is the rear shocks are 5 way adjustable and that is an excellent feature at this price point.
TVS Sport Colours
The colours available for the TVS Sport are
- Black Silver
- Indigo Streak
- Mercury Grey
- Blaze Red
- Volcano Red
- Dazzling white
- Electric Green
Yes there is a black but the silver decals have spoiled the show for me. I am surprised to see so many shades of red. Like TVS decided to try all of them on this bike.

Variant | TVS Sport |
Engine | 100 cc |
Power | 7.40 bhp @ 7500 rpm |
Torque | 7.5 Nm @ 5000 rpm |
Transmission | 4-speed |
Cylinders | 1 |
Top Speed | 85 km/h |
0-60 km/h | 9.4 sec |

The TVS Sport is a stylish simple bike that has a 100cc engine generating 7.4 bhp that manages a top speed of 85 km/h and a 0-60 chase in 9.4 sec. This is quick off the line and we do not have a 0-100 for the obvious. The 4-speed gearbox states that the gearing is tall and requires lesser shifts. The 100cc mill is made for to be efficient than power deliverance.
TVS Sport Mileage
Place | TVS Sport |
City | 89 km/l |
Highway | 98 km/l |
Overall | 95 km/l |
Tank | 12 litres |
Distance | 800 km |
With claim of 95 km/l the TVS Sport seems to surpass a lot of bikes in efficiency. If we consider the 12 litre tank size the bike can do an easy 800 km before hitting the next fuel stop and such long distances are very important in rural area of India where petrol pumps are less. Normally 800 km on a tank is what is seem from cars but TVS manages to achieve it on a bike.
Kudos.

TVS Sport Ride and Handling
The TVS Sport is a simple motorcycle. It portrays itself as a stylish commuter and it very well is. The plush seats and the soft 5-way adjustable suspension make it a relaxation to ride even in mad city traffic or urban small gullyan. With mind blowing efficiency the Sport seems flawless. I would like to see disc brakes as the TVS tyres are not very supportive either and are the only let down of the bike. The disc bakes would make up for the lack of tyre grip.
Seating position is upright and very comfortable and as I had said before the seat is so big I could sleep on it. The handle has a good amount of travel and accessing through small gaps in traffic is relatively easy. The long suspension and ground clearance make for a plush ride without the bother of the bike bottoming out.
Verdict
With the mileage figure that would make other brands re-engineer their bikes the Sport is an Ideal commuter. Few key features like better tyres and disc brakes would make this bike flawless. Urban or Rural commute this bike does it with ease and style. 2017 seems bright for bikes hope the Sport shines well.
