The automotive industry was shocked when the VW DieselGate had happened. The German automaker had to pay a hefty amount as fines to multiple countries. This has cut out a major supply for the brand. To compensate for it, Volkswagen is looking at selling off Ducati. This will clear its debt and help them to invest in their expansion strategy.

The Volkswagen Group is looking at selling the Ducati brand. The Italian bike company that has won 17 championship titles in Superbike racing. There have been rumours that Ducati could be sold to Hero MotoCorp or Chinese investors who had purchased Aston Martin. What is surprising is that none of the known major bike maker like Kawasaki, Yamaha, Harley Davidson have shown any major interest. As they aren’t on the bidding list.

Hero MotoCorp certainly has set-up its own R&D facility, but with Ducati being its owned brand, it shall look at reaching out to more markets and at the same time, even use its technology on to its bikes. Hero has been looking at getting into the performance bike segment, though on an affordable level. This will open up doors for the company with several technologies, making it a highly capable bike and helping Hero get into new segments like 200cc, 250cc, 300cc. These are the segments, Hero has shown interest in and has even showcased concepts on different motor shows. With Hero getting access to Ducati, it will open up a world of opportunities for the company. We can even expect locally made bikes being exported to around the world as well.

At the moment, Volkswagen is looking at selling the brand. There is still some time before it is sold. So, we might have to do some more waiting. Hero MotoCorp has been expanding its business and researching on newer technologies. Ducati could also benefit with this deal as it will get more affordable spares too.
