Fiat has been testing the 1.4-litre MultiAir in India. This engine produces 165bhp of power and comes with a dual clutch transmission. The Italian automaker is testing this powertrain in India. Our sources confirm that the tests for MultiAir have been going on for a while, and we had reported about this last time as well.

The Fiat MultiAir engine will be used on the new Jeep 551. This new SUV will be manufactured in the company’s Ranjangaon plant and will be exported to different countries. Fiat will soon have the Jeep range officially launched in India. This will be adding a lot more value to the company’s portfolio.

Jeep will have a range of new petrol and diesel engines on offer and a set of new transmissions too. Fiat is also working on a new set of products for the Indian car market that will be launched by 2018. This should have a new hatchback, sedan and even a compact SUV too.

All will be based on the Small Car Architecture (SCA) platform for India. This is the same platform used for the Punto and the Linea.

However, now it gets some changes on it. Even the new Jeep 551 is built on the same platform.

The good news is that India should finally get MultiAir engines and dual clutch transmissions.

Let us hope that these get trickled down in the new generation Fiats and even the dual clutch transmission makes its way into the Fiat portfolio. The Ranjangaon plant is already under expansion.
