As per a recent statement by FCA CEO, Sergio Marchionne, next Punto won’t make it into production. So, the plan seems to be scrapped to continue with the Punto brand. From what we learn, this will be given a new brand name.  Rendering of the Fiat X6H have surfaced on the internet. The new Fiat X6H will go on sale by mid 2017, in South American markets.

The next-gen hatchback has been spied several times in Brazil and also in UK. The test mules of the 2017 Fiat Punto are seen more frequently on the roads now, suggesting a launch by next year. The car will be manufactured in Brazil.

This new model will replace the current Punto in 2017. Its been over 10 years since the Grande Punto was first launched and though it received a few upgrades in its lifecycle, a replacement with an all new model was imminent.

The new hatchback , codenamed X6H, is based on a modified 326 platform that underpins the Palio, however it is a stretched one. The Punto will have similar proportions of the current model, but will have a longer wheelbase. The test mules are very well camouflaged with the front portion of the Grand Siena and the body shell of the Palio. Pictures reveal a disproportionate placing of the rear wheel, suggesting that the actual car will be longer in size. Insiders have revealed that it will look like a ‘Palio on steroids’

A sedan version of the same is also being tested , which will replace the Grand Siena / Linea. This car will be manufactured in Argentina, while the hatchback will be made in Brazil. The pre-series production model is slated to be ready by June, this year and will finally start assembly by end of the year, for a 2017 launch.

The new hatch will come with a brand new 1.4-litre all aluminum engine that will produce close to 100bhp of power, which is being developed by Fiat. The 1.6-litre E-torque engine will also make its way into this car. The New hatch will be only for the Brazilian market at launch and may not make it to the European market.

We expect this to be the model that will make it to India to replace the current Punto Evo. Diesel engine is expected to be the same 1.3-litre Multijet, with a higher state of tune. The transmissions will be the five-speed manual and six-speed automatic currently used in the Jeep Renegade. The New Punto will also get Start-Stop technology.

Fiat X6H Interior

Images of the new Fiat X6H have been spotted, and the interiors reveal a lot of details about this new hatchback. The steering wheel resembles that of the new Tipo and the Wrangler. This is a multi-functional wheel with controls for music and even maybe cruise control. The instrument cluster is made of twin dials with the driver information system sandwiched between them. The infotainment system has a seven-inch touchscreen system that gets navigation, reverse camera and even bluetooth connectivity. This looks a 7-inch tab that we have seen on most of the luxury cars like Mercedes-Benz. The HVAC is automatic climate control system.

Fiat X6H Launch in India?

We aren’t certain if it will be coming to India.

Even if it does, it won’t be anytime before 2018. Fiat at the moment is working towards getting the new Jeep Compass to India. But as the X6H shares the same SCA platform, we reckon the changes of this new hatchback to come to India is very high.
