Maruti has been testing the Baleno in India not just with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet but even 1.4-litre petrol engine as well. From what we learn from our sources near the plant, Maruti is gearing up to launch the Baleno with a 1.4-litre petrol engine and 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine for the European market. This new hatchback will be launched in Europe sometime in early 2016 and it will be exported from the company’s Manesar plant.

The 1.2-litre might not be used for exports. For the Indian car market, Maruti might introduce the 1.0-litre as well. The 1.4-litre petrol will attract excise duty and it will be additional cost for the Indian car buyers. Hence, Maruti will stick to the 1.0-litre, while Suzuki will be using the 1.4-litre petrol. This engine produces about 90bhp of power and will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Baleno will also be launched with an RS variant as well.
