Mahindra will be calling the S101 as the XUV100 and the new micro-SUV will be launched in January 2016. As per the earlier plan, the XUV100 was to be launched in December 2015, however now it has been pushed to January 2016. The launch has been postponed as the TUV300 has got a good amount of bookings and the company is looking at fulfilling this number at the moment.

 

The XUV100 and the TUV300 are planned to be built in the Chakan facility and at the moment, a lot of the production capacity is being used by the TUV300. So, Mahindra is now looking towards increasing its market reach with this new compact SUV. The XUV100 is based on a monocoque platform with inputs from the Ssangyong team. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine options and will be launched with a five-speed manual and AMT options.

The XUV100 will be the priced at about INR 6-9.

5 lakhs (on-road) and will be a five-seater with features like daytime running LEDs, in-dash music system with bluetooth, steering controls for audio and calling, dual airbags and even ABS. The XUV100 will be targeting urban car buyers and this will be a five-seater crossover. The XUV100 will be a part of the XUV500 family and Mahindra is looking at capturing the Hyundai i20 Active segment with this. At the moment, only the i20 Active is doing well in this segment. The other brands like the Fiat Avventura haven’t been able to make a mark in this segment so far.
