Volkswagen is looking at introducing the Polo GTi, and there are reports all over the internet. However, the German automaker is testing this on 1.

8-litre turbo petrol engine that churns about 168bhp of power and will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This petrol engine can produce about 180bhp of power, however it has been detuned to this.

The Polo GTi coming to India will have a six-speed manual transmission only and it will be not be coming with an automatic transmission. The Volkswagen brand have been increasingly focusing more on performance products and we already have the Polo GT TSi and GT TDi. However now the brand is looking at increasing its footprint in the hot hatchback segment and they will want to have a faster hatch, especially after Fiat has introduced the Abarth Punto with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol producing 145bhp of power.

Volkswagen Polo 1.5 18

The Volkswagen Polo GTi will be more powerful than the Abarth Punto and Avventura and this should be launched in the first half of 2016. The Volkswagen brand is already using this engine on the Octavia and we shall see this engine on the Polo too.

The pricing of this hatchback will be in excess of INR 13 lakhs and will be an amazing offering for the Indian car market, and is likely to open the hot hatchback for the Indian car buyers.
