Maruti Suzuki has finally unveiled on the third day of the Auto Expo 2020. The model unveiled was an European spec model, not a shorter Kei version which is currently sold in Japan. It is now clear that India will get the bigger Jimny version, which is good indeed. To know more about this Maruti Jimny scroll below.

Exterior

Jimny

The Jimny gets the typical five-slat grille with honeycomb inserts at front, which kind of resembles the old Gypsy. The headlamps are round, which maintains the signature styling of Maruti Jimny. It gets the skit plate at front to have the sturdy visual and also for off-road purpose.

From side-profile, it looks like a typical old-school SUV with the boxy design.

The Marurti Jimny gets five-spoke alloy wheels. The wheel arches are bulged out to avoid the mud splashing while off-roading. The wing mirrors have the piano black finish.

The Jimny is a 3-door vehicle, so it is offered with big doors to have comfortable access to rear seats.

The spare tyre is situated at the back of the vehicle, resembling the old Jimny.

Interior

The interior has pretty modern features. It will have multiple air bags options, ABS, EBD and various electronic assisted safety elements. It gets the Maruti’s floating 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Various elements are similar to Maruti Swift such as AC knobs, steering wheel, buttons, etc.

Engine

It was speculated that it will have 1.3-litre diesel engine, but for now Maruti doesn’t have 1.3-litre diesel engine due to stricter BS6 norms.

So it will now posses 1.5-litre petrol engine, same engine is offered on Ciaz, XL6 and Ertiga. The engine produces around 102.5 bhp max power at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm peak torque at 4,400 rpm. The Jimny is a proper body-on-frame vehicle with the 4X4 drive mode. This actually makes Jimny a very capable off-roader.

Price

The Maruti Jimny will be manufactured in India, so it will have very competitive pricing. It is expected to sit just below the Maruti Vitara Brezza, so it is expected to priced around Rs 7 lakhs(ex-showroom) to Rs 10 lakhs(ex-showroom). It is expected to launch somewhere between end of 2020 and start of 2021. The Jimny will rival Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
