Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) had commenced construction of its new Gujarat plant. This is an only scooter plant and it will have a production capacity of 1.2 million annual units. This is Honda’s fourth plant in India and the Japanese automaker will increase its production capacity to 5.8 million once this plant commences production.

“The work in the Gujarat plant is projected to get over by January and most likely the operations will start by then. This will be a complete scooter plant with a capacity of 1.2 million units,” stated a company official who did not wish to relieve his identity.

Honda has planned 15 launches for this year and the Japanese has been more aggressive than Hero MotoCorp off lately, as they have been introducing more new and refreshed products.

Hero too will be getting the Duet and the Maestro Edge by the end of this month, which will be their new 110cc scooters against the Honda Activa.
