With work on the 2016 Camaro coupe and convertible nearing completion, we’ve just spied GM engineers again while testing the hot rod, 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1, all thanks to Andreas.Camaro ZL1 2

When compared to last set of spy photos of the Camaro ZL1 , we can see much more now due to the fact that the heavy camouflage is missing. No more sacks that are hiding the big front grille and the sportier front bumper with that prominent lip spoiler.

Then there are the new double spoke wheels, and a larger rear spoiler is also visible. The exhaust tips also appeared a little wider than what we see on the regular model. The bigger rocker panels are also part of the ZL1 package and of course the larger spoiler at the back too.

The hood of this ZL1 prototype also appears to have a hood-mounted heat extractor similar to the one seen on the Corvette and Cadillac CTS-V. In addition to more aggressive styling, and upgrades to the suspension and aerodynamics, we’re expecting the ZL1 to feature a version of the 6.2-litre, supercharged V8 found in the CTS-V and Corvette Z06.

We’ve not heard what the LT4 will be rated at in the 2017 Camaro ZL1 yet, but with the weight savings from the Alpha platform, it might not be too far above the current ZL1’s 580bhp. This can be expected to make a debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, with production starting in the summer of 2016.
