Fiat buyers to do more waiting for 1.5-litre diesel

As Fiat India is amidst multiple product planning, the 1.5-litre multijet is one of the key ones. This new engine will be derived from the existing 1.6-litre multijet engine. However, Fiat products will take a while before they start using them.

The new 1.5-litre multijet engine will produce about 115bhp of power and this engine will be ready by early 2016. It is post that it will be tested for application purposes. However, the major drawback is that Fiat cars won’t be the first to get these engines. It will be the new Jeep C-segment SUV that will be powered by this 1.5-litre diesel engine.

This new diesel engine will be manufactured only in India and Jeep will get a more powerful version of this engine mostly.

Fiat will use this engine only in 2017-18, when the brand will be launching its new range of products.

This includes a new sedan, hatchback and a compact SUV. Other than that, Fiat will continue to power the existing Linea with the same 1.3-litre 90bhp multijet mill.

As per the current company plan, there is no clarity on the usage of 1.

5-litre diesel in the Linea. The next-gen Punto or the new hatchback will retain the same 1.3-litre diesel engine itself. The SUV will be a proper size one and this will also come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
