Mahindra has been testing the U301, which will mostly be named as TUV300. The TUV300 will come in orange, silver, white and black/grey colours. The TUV300 is a compact SUV that will be under 4 metres and will have seven-seats. The third row will be jump seats just like the Quanto. On the inside, it is the same like the Quanto itself, which is also a sub 4-metre SUV from Mahindra.

The TUV300 gets beige interior trim and the lower variants are likely to come in grey or black. The TUV300 get new dashboard, new generation of steering wheel and even a new instrument panel.

The features on the TUV300 are integrated music system with Bluetooth, USB and aux connectivity, all four power windows (located at the centre like the old Scorpio), in fact even the gear lever is shared with some of the other Mahindras. The Mahindra TUV300 or the U301 will a wheel mounted at the rear, like the Quanto and won’t have daytime-running LEDs, it will have rugged-styling and Mahindra will be targeting the youth with this vehicle.

The TUV300 will one with one engine only, which is the 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine that will produce about 100bhp and will come mated to a five-speed manual or AMT (automated manual transmission). This has the same drive train like the Quanto. The TUV300 will be priced at about INR 7.

5-10 lakhs (on-road). The TUV300 and the Quanto will be competing with the Ford Ecosport. The Quanto will be a bit more premium than the U301. The U301 will be made available in three variants, SLE, SLX and ZLX. There will even be ABS and airbags on offer, on the top-of-the-line variant.
