Maruti Celerio diesel is now ready for a launch

Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio diesel news has been around for a while and now it seems that the company is gearing up to launch the new 793cc diesel engine. This engine was developed by Suzuki Japan for global use and this is a two-cylinder version. The four-cylinder version is the 1600cc, but for the Indian market it has been trimmed to 1500cc.

The 793cc diesel engine will power the Celerio and the Super Carry (Maruti’s first pick-up to compete with Tata Ace).

This engine is highly fuel-efficient and will return a mileage of about 30 km/l as per ARAI cycle. This will be the highest car mileage in the ARAI cycle and will be setting a new benchmark. Maruti Celerio will house the smallest diesel engine in the country. At the moment, Chevrolet’s Beat has the smallest diesel engine of 1000cc. The Beat diesel’s ARAI mileage is about 25km/l.

Highly affordable diesel engine

The Celerio will be most affordable diesel car, and Maruti Suzuki has plans to offer it on its future range of vehicles in the affordable category. The Celerio comes with AMT (automated manual transmission) as well and about 40 percent of its sales come from it. This technology is highly affordable and that is the same strategy that Maruti is utilised with this new small diesel. There won’t be much of a differentiator between petrol and diesel variants and what the latter will have on offer is the best possible fuel-efficiency.

So, those who travel out of the city more often will pick diesel instead of CNG. Maruti Celerio diesel should cost about INR 40,000 more than the equivalent petrol variant.
