Two new engines for the Toyota Fortuner

Toyota is preparing to introduce the next-generation Fortuner sometime in 2016 in India, however it will be revealed in Thailand this year. As per one of our sources, the new Fortuner will have two engine options for India, one will be a 2.4-litre and the other a 2.8-litre. These new engines will be derived from the existing 2.

5-litre and 3.0-litre engines respectively that currently power the Toyota Fortuner.

The new engines will be more powerful and more importantly a lot more fuel-efficient too. Toyota has been working on the Fortuner for about two years already and it is still a year away from its launch.

The 2.4-litre engine will have two power outputs, one will be 148bhp and the other 165bhp; while the 2.8-litre engine will produce 175bhp of power. All these engines will be made available in automatic and even manual transmissions.

2.4-litre engine: 148bhp and 165bhp of power, five-speed manual and six-speed manual transmission

2.8-litre engine: 175bhp, six-speed manual and automatic transmission

New Toyota Fortuner is more efficient.

The new-generation of the Fortuner will be lighter than the currently sold SUV. So, the diet will add on to the fuel-efficiency of this SUV. Toyota has reduced the weight of the chassis and at the same time even downsized the engines, so the Fortuner will be fuel-efficient and will possess better driving dynamics too. The weight of the new Fortuner should be reduced by about 50 kilograms at least. The pricing of the Fortuner will remain similar between INR 29-32 lakhs (on-the-road).

The currently sold Fortuner doesn’t possess the driving dynamics and fuel efficiency like its competition and so Toyota will want to those points removed from its negatives.
