Land Rover will not be just introducing the new Discovery Sport, it will also be getting the Range Rover Sport SVR for the Indian car market. This is the fastest Land Rover ever, as it comes with a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine that produces about 541bhp of power and it comes mated to an eight-speed ZF transmission.

The Range Rover Sport always had good on and off road manners, the SVR (SV Racing) has been developed by the recently formed SVO (Special Vehicles Operation). Range Rover Sport SVR has even better driving dynamics and is ready to take on almost any sports car on a racing track. The Range Rover Sport SVR does a 0-100km/hr in 4.7 seconds, which is highly quick by SUV standards.

The Range Rover Sport SVR should be made available in India by the second half of 2015 and it will be competing with the Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG. Both of them are similar in size and power and have been designed to be driven on a track, road and off-road conditions. The power too is a lot similar. Land Rover will want to enter the performance SUV segment and compete with the others.

No other German SUV maker has entered this segment, be it BMW or even Audi.

Audi could get the next-generation SQ7 to India, but that won’t be anytime at least in this year.

BMW and Volvo are going green as at least the latter will be introducing the XC90 hybrid in 2016. BMW has just got the i8, and we expect more fuel-efficient cars and SUVs to follow after this.
