Datsun’s RediGO will be the company’s new entry-level hatchback that will sit below the GO. This will be based on the CMF-A platform, which will be shared with the Renault Kayou. This is a new project that both the companies have been working on. These hatchbacks have been designed from scratch to cater to the Indian audience. The price of the Datsun RediGO should be about INR 2.75 lakhs (on-road) for the base model.

The RediGO will have a tall stance so that even tall people can sit comfortably. It will be a modern affordable entry-level hatchback that will be stylish, spacious and even feature loaded. If we go by Datsun’s current philosophy, it should get the mobile-docking system too. But Nissan could surprise us with a newly designed interior.

The RediGO will be made available with a three-cylinder 800cc (B4A) engine that will produce about 45-50bhp of power and will come with a five-speed manual and mostly even an AMT (automated manual transmission). At the moment, there won’t any diesel engines on offer on the RediGO, but the GO+ could get a new 1.2-litre diesel engine that Nissan has been developing. This is the three-cylinder version of the existing 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine.

The Datsun RediGO will be right up in Alto 800’s alley. This will be Datsun’s product for the largest segment in the Indian car market. Renault’s Kayou will be competing in this segment too and it will be based on the same CMF-A platform, however let’s hope the similarities to end with the underpinnings itself. The Renault Kayou (XBA) will have a global unveil on the 20th May in India.

Both Renault and Datsun will be exporting the Kayou and the RediGO from the Chennai plant. Renault might even manufacture the Kayou in its Moroccan plant and badge it as Dacia. The Kayou will be sold in Europe and Africa under the Dacia brand.
