Another MotorOctane Exclusive! Eicher Polaris have come together to make a more affordable vehicle for small businesses like bakers, small farmers etc and this is most likely to be called as FlexiTuff.

The Eicher Polaris FlexiTuff will be available in two forms, one as a double-cab pick-up truck and there should also be another will a multi-purpose van that could follow later.

Both will be built on the same chassis and it should be powered by a 600cc diesel engine. This engine is being sourced from Cotton Greaves new factory in Jaipur. This engine returns a fuel efficiency in excess of 25km/l as per the ARAI testing. In the first year about 10,000-15,000 units will be produced annually, which will then be bumped up to 100,000 units in the coming years.

Polaris is an expert in making off-roader vehicles and the American brand has used it expertise to design a light weight and tough body for the FlexiTuff.

The commercial production of this vehicle will commence latest by June 2015. Our sources haven’t hinted anything on the pricing but it will be highly competitive and affordable for farmers and other small businessmen. Expect the FlexiTuff to be launched by around July 2015 as the latest.

The Eicher Polaris FlexiTuff will be made on tubular chassis to make it light and rigid and multiple lightweight and affordable alloys are being used in this project to make the vehicle a lot more affordable. It is a lot lighter than the ladder on frame. Both the partners have contributed about Rs 250 crores to develop this platform and multiple vehicles will be made on this designed platform. Looking at the size, it does look compact, this will make it easier to drive in the tight city lanes.
