The next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander has been spotted in Japan, by a local website. The next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander will be made available in India too but this will be in the first half of 2016. The Outlander 2016 will be made available with petrol and even diesel engines. The previous-generation was only sold with a 2.4-litre petrol engine and a CVT (continuously variable transmission) with an all-wheel drive.

The styling of the Mitsubishi Outlander has been inspired from the Outlander PHEV Concept-S, which was showcased at last year’s Paris Motor Show.

The new Outlander does look bigger in dimensions and it also looks a lot more muscular than before. The previous Outlander was sleek and it had an aggressive snout, but the new seems to have evolved from the current-generation’s design. Soon, the Mitsubishi Outlander will be unveiled and post that it will be launched in Japan, followed by other south-east Asian countries.

Mitsubishi will be targeting the European nations too with this new SUV. No engine specs have been revealed so far.

The current Outlander has been discontinued in India along with the Cedia, Lancer Evolution X and the regular Pajero. At the moment, Mitsubishi is selling only the Pajero Sport in manual and automatic versions in India, which are assembled at Hindustan Motors plant. The Japanese company has a JV with Hindustan Motors and the due plans to launch five more products in the coming years. Expect Mitsubishi to launch a couple of more utilities vehicles and a sedan too in the next two to three years.
