Jeep 551 (Jeep Compass) coming to India

Jeep 551 has once again been spotted, and this time it is the interior shot. The new 551 will be making its way into India as well. FCA Group hasn’t confirmed on the same, but our sources have hinted its arrival. Jeep 551 is a C-SUV and it will be a tad larger than the Renegade. This will be in the Tucson price bracket from what it looks. The new Jeep 551 could be named as the new-generation Compass. Anyways, this will be revealed in Brazil as per Jeep’s big boss. We have confirmed information that this new SUV will come to India by the second half of 2017.

 Jeep 551 Price in India (Expected)

From what we understand, the Jeep 551 should be priced at about INR 19 lakhs to INR 24 lakhs (on-road). This will be due to the fact that the Jeep 551 will be locally built. It will be made in India and exported to other markets. This will give Jeep a price advantage over the competition.

Jeep 551 Interiors

This new SUV will have contemporary styling. It gets a mid-size touchscreen system with long AC vents. The infotainment system will have navigation and even reverse parking camera as well. The new Jeep steering wheel shall continue on this new SUV as well. This will be a five-seater SUV for India. Space will be one of the key components on the Jeep, as this has been engineered by a mix of Jeep and Fiat engineers.

Jeep 551 Engine Options (Expected)

Jeep 551 will be coming with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will churn about 170bhp of power and it will come with an option of six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic transmissions. These will be engines that will be powering the Jeep 551. With regards to the petrol engine, expect the 1.4-litre MultiAir to power to the Jeep 551. There will be a 2.0-litre diesel engine as well, and maybe a higher capacity petrol engine too, but for India the first two engines will be used. As majority of the buyers will be diesel, Jeep is focusing more on diesel engine. The advantage that Jeep will have is of the automatic transmission.

This will be the only vehicle in its segment to offer a nine-speed automatic. The diesel engine will be shared with Tata Motors, for their new range of SUVs that will be based on the Harrier platform and shall be made with inputs from the Land Rover team.

Jeep 551 Expected Features

This will be offering features like keyless entry, push start and stop, reverse parking camera, touchscreen system, maps, dual airbags, ABS, leather seats and 17-inch alloy wheels.

This will be a five-seater SUV that will be coming its way into India and from here it will be exported to other parts of the world. This will be spacious and it will get Jeep Renegade’s characteristics when it comes to handling. This SUV will be bigger than Renegade and at the same time a lot more powerful too. It will be coming with an all wheel drive version, which will have two-wheel drive option too.  This new Jeep will not just be powerful and good at handling, it will be spacious too.

Jeep Renegade has been spotted as it is being benchmarked against the Skoda Yeti. This will be useful to compare it against the Jeep 551 as both share the same platform. Fiat will be using the SCA platform for Jeep range.
